NEW DELHI — Union Minister Piyush Goyal declared India the world’s premier destination for establishing data centres, citing the nation’s rapid digital expansion and robust infrastructure capabilities during a recent industry address.
The bold assertion highlights India’s emergence as a global digital powerhouse. Driven by exponential growth in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and massive data consumption among its 1.4 billion citizens, the country has become an irresistible hub for foreign and domestic tech investments.
According to ET Government, Goyal emphasized that India offers a unique combination of cost-competitive renewable energy, a vast pool of skilled engineering talent, and progressive government policies. These factors significantly lower operational costs for global tech giants looking to scale their digital infrastructure.
Furthermore, the minister pointed out that the government’s digital initiatives and streamlined regulatory frameworks have created a seamless business environment. This strategic positioning aligns with India’s broader economic goals of boosting foreign direct investment (FDI) and generating high-tech employment opportunities.
Industry analysts note that India’s data centre capacity is projected to double over the next few years, attracting billions in capital from global conglomerates.
As the digital economy accelerates, the central government plans to introduce further incentives to sustain this momentum, solidifying the nation’s long-term dominance in the global tech ecosystem.
