Hyundai India Scouts Third Manufacturing Plant to Fuel Growth

Hyundai India Scouts Third Manufacturing Location for Next Growth Phase

NEW DELHI — Hyundai Motor India is actively scouting for a third manufacturing location outside of Tamil Nadu to support its next phase of domestic and global growth, according to Autocar Professional.

The strategic search highlights the South Korean automaker’s aggressive expansion plans in the world’s third-largest automotive market. As capacity utilization peaks at its existing facilities, securing a new plant has become critical to meeting rising local demand and bolstering export volumes.

Hyundai currently operates two high-capacity manufacturing plants in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, which together churn out nearly 820,000 units annually. The automaker also recently acquired the former General Motors plant in Talegaon, Maharashtra, which is slated to become operational soon.

However, industry insiders note that leadership is already looking beyond these assets. The company aims to future-proof its production capabilities to support a wider portfolio, including a significant push into electric vehicles (EVs) and advanced powertrain technologies over the next decade.

State governments across India are reportedly vying for the multi-billion-dollar investment. Hyundai’s final site selection will likely hinge on state-level EV incentives, robust logistics infrastructure, and proximity to major ports for export operations.

An official announcement regarding the final location is expected later this fiscal year, pending feasibility studies and board approval.
