Embraer and Mahindra Select Nagpur for Proposed C-390 Millennium Assembly Facility in India
NEW DELHI — Brazilian aerospace manufacturer Embraer and India’s Mahindra Group have advanced their partnership to industrialize the C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft in India, designating Nagpur, Maharashtra, as the preferred site for a final assembly facility.
The strategic initiative, announced by Embraer, supports the Indian Air Force’s upcoming medium transport aircraft procurement program. If selected, the Nagpur facility will serve as a regional manufacturing hub.
This development marks a significant step in bolstering India’s defense-industrial base under the government’s “Make in India” initiative. By establishing local production, the partnership aims to integrate the Indian aerospace ecosystem into Embraer’s global supply chain, fostering technology transfer and high-tech job creation.
Executives from both companies highlighted the aircraft’s versatility, reliability, and cost-effectiveness in operational missions. The C-390 Millennium has garnered international attention for its ability to perform a variety of roles, including troop and cargo transport, medical evacuation, and aerial firefighting.
“Nagpur offers strategic advantages with its robust infrastructure, central location, and growing aerospace ecosystem,” representatives noted, emphasizing the city’s readiness to host advanced defense manufacturing operations.
The collaboration builds on a Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier between Embraer and Mahindra. Both entities will now finalize the operational roadmap and regulatory frameworks required for the project.
Next steps involve formalizing contractual agreements with Indian defense authorities, pending the official evaluation and selection of the C-390 aircraft for the Indian Air Force fleet.
