CBI Warns Public Against Phishing Scams and Cyber Fraud

GUWAHATI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) issued a nationwide public warning on Tuesday against escalating phishing scams, strongly urging citizens to report all cyber fraud immediately.

Law enforcement agencies nationwide report a sharp surge in sophisticated digital frauds targeting vulnerable citizens. Fraudsters increasingly impersonate government officials and law enforcement officers to extract sensitive personal data and financial assets.

The federal agency revealed that criminals deploy advanced technological tactics to deceive unsuspecting victims. Perpetrators frequently use video calls and fake arrest warrants to instill panic. They demand immediate monetary transfers under the guise of legal settlements or security verifications.

CBI officials emphasized that genuine investigators never conduct interrogations through video conferencing applications. Authorities urged citizens to remain highly vigilant when receiving unsolicited digital communications.

“Citizens must never share confidential banking details or transfer funds to unknown entities,” senior agency officials stated. “Immediate reporting remains critical to intercepting stolen funds and apprehending these organized cyber syndicates.”

Victims of cyber crimes should promptly contact national helpline numbers. Citizens can also file formal complaints directly through the official government cybercrime reporting portal.

Law enforcement units across multiple states are currently intensifying digital surveillance operations. Investigators aim to dismantle the international criminal networks orchestrating these widespread financial scams.
