NEW DELHI — India has officially mapped and released standardized names for 27 key geographic locations across Arunachal Pradesh, countering Beijing’s repeated attempts to rename territories within the Indian state.
According to India Today, the strategic move aims to firmly assert India’s territorial sovereignty over the region. The newly designated coordinates and standardized nomenclature cover critical peaks, rivers, and localities in the northeastern frontier.
This development matters because it marks a direct pushback against China’s psychological warfare tactics. Beijing has unilaterally issued standardized Mandarin names for dozens of places in Arunachal Pradesh—which China claims as “South Tibet”—in an ongoing effort to legitimize its territorial ambitions. By officially publishing these authentic names, New Delhi seeks to invalidate Beijing’s cartographic aggression on the international stage.
Sources indicate that Indian mapping agencies compiled the comprehensive list following meticulous ground surveys and historical research. The updated maps reinforce administrative control and ensure official documentation reflects indigenous and traditional nomenclature rather than foreign fabrication.
Bilateral tensions between the Asian giants have remained high along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) since the 2020 Galwan Valley clash. The latest mapping initiative underscores India’s refusal to cede diplomatic or cartographic ground in the protracted border dispute.
Experts expect Beijing to issue formal diplomatic protests following New Delhi’s latest announcement. Meanwhile, Indian security forces maintain a high state of operational readiness along the frontier.
